Quality of Our Precious Metals Bullion

The quality of all of our precious metal bullion is classed as 'Fine'. The wording 'Fine' is a legacy term relating to purity of gold investment bullion that dates from days of old (see the definition and origins).

A Standard Troy Ounce is a precious metal with a purity of up to 91.667% (which is approximately 22 carats). Any precious metal above that purity is classed as Fine, hence when discussing our bullion in the weight of ounces, the full technically correct term is Fine Troy Ounce.

All of our physical precious metals and gold investment products are classified as Fine. Our products have a purity that ranges from a minimum of 99.5%-99.99%, the details of which are confirmed on our product contract specifications catalogue.

When describing the purity of precious metals the percentages have the decimal in a different place to what you are normally used to seeing in maths and they're sometimes missing entirely, such as 999.5 (99.95%) or 9999 (99.99%).

In the last few years, the new 1 oz Canadian Maple Leaf coins are produced with a unique built-in anti-counterfeiting technology to help investors and dealers to verify the coin's authenticity. However, please note we can't guarantee the year of mintage that you will get and many orders will likely be fulfilled with older years pre-dating this feature.
